Meet Damian Ruse.
I came up through the athlete pathway. Long enough to learn what training is supposed to do, not just what it’s supposed to look like. That lens is what shaped everything that came after.
For the past 14 years, I’ve coached cyclists around the world — from beginners finding their structure, to masters riders chasing one more good season, to professionals on the WorldTour. The one I’m most known for is Jay Vine, who I worked with from his earliest days in the sport through to his transition into the UAE Team Emirates programme. The same approach that built Jay’s foundation is what I apply with every athlete I work with today.
Across those 14 years I’ve personally analysed more than 20,000 training sessions. Power files. Heart rate signatures. Fatigue patterns. The decoupling moments when athletes start losing their shape. The cadence shifts that signal real effort versus survival. The late-ride power decay that decides whether an athlete finishes strong or barely finishes at all.
The pattern that emerged from that work is the thing SEMIPRO is built around: durability wins rides, not FTP alone. What you can do when you’re fresh is one number. What you can do after three hours of hard riding is a completely different number — and it’s the one that decides your event.
That insight is the foundation of how I coach. It’s what gets built into every plan, every Training Review, every adjustment I make for an athlete.
